Stellate Ganglion Block in Waco
What is Stellate Ganglion Block?
The stellate ganglion block (SGB) is an interventional injection treatment which can be effective in relieving symptoms of some pain conditions and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Procedure
The procedure is completed in the office and generally takes about 30 minutes. After checking and taking initial vitals, local anesthetics or sedatives may be provided for patient comfort. During the block, an anesthetic medication, and adjunct medications such as steroids, are injected near nerve bundles in the neck. Patients rest for about 10 to 20 minutes while the medications take effect.
Results
A stellate ganglion block may provide immediate relief from nerve pain conditions, including:
- Nerve Injury
- Herpes Zoster Pain (shingles)
- Lasting Angina Pain
- Some other conditions such as PTSD
- Regional Pain Syndrome (CPRS)
- Long Covid Symptoms (anosmia- loss of smell & dysgeusia- distortion of taste)
It is difficult to find effective treatments for PTSD. Studies and patient results increasingly show that the stellate ganglion block procedure may provide rapid improvement of PTSD symptoms, and may provide lasting relief – especially with multiple treatments. Anecdotal results suggest that relief from even a single injection may be long lasting for some patients.
